Final year group film
For my final year of my course, I worked in a group with my two classmakes to make the short film 'Doki Doki Go! Magical Girl Hero!' This project is our love letter to our relationship with animation, more so anime specifically: strange gags, gorgeous visuals, ridiculous title names, intense fight scenes and innocuous women relationships.
My role in this project was team lead, FX Animator, amd Compositor.
I was very excited to fully delve into the FX of this film, I’ve never been given this much room to work solely on FX work. I felt like the two characters should have visually distinct powers to help identify who’s attacking who when the action gets fast paced. I settled on general magical attacks for Hinode, and electricity based attacks for Murasaki.

After I had cemented the visual design for their attacks, I moved on to designing the characters weapons. It was easy to work backwards, so I took elements from each of their attack style and implemented them into the weapons.

Work experience for Kilkenny Nerd Club
For my work experience in the summer of 2025, I was lucky enough along with three of my classmates to create an animated ad for the Kilkenny Nerd Club, along with other animated assets.
This project was nothing like i've worked on before, but I enjoyed this one the most. Working with clients, implimenting their feedback throughout the process, and knowing this was made for a specififc audience was all very rewarding. I was also solely in charge of the FX animation, and I feel like they added a lot of charm to the add.

For this project I also had the opportunity to create gifs of the clubs two characters for their personal Discord server. This was a very unique experience, I've never made gifs before but I was really happy with how they turnd out, and the though that people would be using these during their conversations was very exciting!

Third year solo short film -
'Cat-tastrophe'
For my third year solo short film, I was excited to have full creative control. I decided to focus on 2D FX, I wanted the main content of the film to revolve around them, so I put my main character in different situations that I could squeeze as much FX into as possible.
While the premise of this short is quite simple, I was happy with how it turned out. I was able to experiment with a few different types of FX, and the backgrounds and character design weren't too complicated.

Second year group short film - 'Connection'
During my second year of collage I made an animated short film with three of my teammates. I was in charge of both the background colouring, and the environmental FX.
I had never done any environmental fx before, so I had to do quite a bit of research and experimenting beforehand. During my research I took heavy inspiration from Ghibli movies, since they were full of subtle yet effective grass animation. These tests turned out very different than the final animation (thankfully) and I felt like i had the proper knowledge to move forward!
This short film is actually what sparked my interest in 2D FX, the world itself played such a huge part in the plot and it was so fulfilling to see the characters interact with the area around them. The layers in harmony turned out to be absolute hell but we will ignore that forever!
I also was responsible for planning the backgrounds and colouring them in. There was a lot of experimental phases for how we wanted the style to look, but we eventually landed on a painted vibe with loose lineart, and a colour pallete that changed for nearly every scene.
